Light. Images. Light/images. Moving lights. Moving images. Moving/light/images. Framed and free flowing light waves, sculptural light objects.
The ON sight specific group exhibition presents works by artists of Lighthouse light art society at an unusual location by utilizing the special atmosphere of Csokonai Theatre in Debrecen and turning it into an impromptu art gallery.
Ivó KOVÁCS:
Neo-baroque I. [2020]
The empty space, we might assume, is equally empty everywhere, – it is symmetrical in all directions. However, it is not symmetrical: it breaks, bends, condenses here and there. When it thickens it will have mass, the hitherto invisible light passes through it, slows down, solidifies, part of it becomes matter, forms a surface, which is then becomes visible. The condensed material unconsciously tries to fill the given space uniformly, which is sometimes disturbed by the hitherto invisible symmetry-breaking interactions, but in this way these forces also become visible. We do not know the cause of the forces, perhaps if they become visible we will understand them better.
In the projected animation, the infinite space is symbolized by the projected part of the ceiling, the invisible forces are simple rules such as attraction and repulsion. The animation generated by simple rules resembles decorative, meaningless elements that appear on Baroque-era illusionist ceiling frescoes. In its logic, it is similarly based on pairs of opposites. In its overall effect, it is so complex that it seems mystical to the viewer, though the algorithm only unconsciously designates, opens, and fills the space over and over again.
